Sean Prospect Named 2026 Afterschool Ambassador by Afterschool Alliance
March 2, 2026 – National recognition highlights the leadership of South Florida After-School All-Stars and the importance of afterschool programs for youth.
South Florida After-School All-Stars is proud to announce that Executive Director Sean Prospect has been selected by the Afterschool Alliance as a 2026 Afterschool Ambassador, one of just 16 leaders nationwide chosen for this prestigious honor.
During his one-year term, Sean will work with policymakers and community leaders across the country to raise awareness about the importance of afterschool and summer learning programs and the vital role they play in supporting students and families. Afterschool Ambassadors advocate for expanded access to programs that keep young people safe, inspire learning, and provide meaningful mentorship during the critical hours after school.
As part of this national role, Sean will also help organize a local Lights On Afterschool event in October 2026, joining thousands of communities across the country in celebrating the impact of afterschool programs.
“Afterschool programs provide students with safe spaces to learn, connect with mentors, and discover their passions,” said Prospect. “I’m honored to help bring greater awareness to the importance of these programs and the difference they make in the lives of young people.”
This national recognition highlights the important work being done by South Florida After-School All-Stars and the FIU After-School All-Stars Program, which serve thousands of students each year through free, comprehensive afterschool and summer programs that support academic success, leadership development, health and wellness, and college and career readiness.
Afterschool by the Numbers
A 2025 national survey found that 29.6 million children have parents who want access to afterschool programs, yet fewer than 7 million are currently enrolled. That means three in four children whose families want these programs still don’t have access, largely due to cost and availability.
Research consistently shows that students who participate in afterschool programs improve their grades, attendance, and behavior, while also building essential life skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
