FIU After-School All-Stars (ASAS) held their first annual IMPACT Conference for their top middle and high school students in the program on March 31 and April 1, 2021. This 2-day leadership conference focused on Inspiring and Motivating our youth to be Powerful and Ambition to Change the World Together. In other words, to make an IMPACT in our community.

Thirty-four (34) students participated in the multiple sessions focused on the key words, where they learned to motivate themselves and others as well as implement what they learned. The conference began where the students had to identify a key inspirational word that represents them and then carry it throughout each interactive presentation learning to inspire, motivate and be powerful to change the world for the better. The sessions dealt with learning to be a positive voice, dealing with adversity and how to strive to handle difficult issues in the world today. The last session included individual student presentations showcasing their poems or stories of how they are powerful and can motivate others to make a difference in our community.

The conference concluded with our guest speaker, Dale McLean, the In-Arena Host from the Miami HEAT who inspired them with his life story of how he persevered even when faced with adversity, by believing in himself and networking to become a success in his career. And he inspired them to find the positive motivation in themselves to overcome any challenge.
