Popeyes Foundation donated over $5,000 to Support Food Security for High School Students

Miami, FL – South Florida After-School All-Stars (SFASAS) is proud to recognize and thank the Popeyes Foundation for its generous $5,360 grant supporting food security for 250 high school students served through SFASAS programs.

The grant addressed a critical need during after-school and summer programming—times when students are most vulnerable to hunger. Funds were used to provide nutritious lunches during summer programming, after-school snacks during the academic year, and a recognition dinner celebrating students who demonstrated exceptional performance and achievement.

“For many of our students, access to food is directly tied to their ability to participate, focus, and succeed,” said Julie Todaro, SFASAS Director of Development. “The Popeyes Foundation’s support helped remove a daily barrier for students and allowed them to fully engage in academic enrichment, leadership development, and personal growth.”

Staff observed increased attendance consistency, improved focus, and stronger collaboration among students following meal distribution. Students also shared informally that knowing food was provided relieved stress and gave them one less reason to miss programming. By integrating meals seamlessly into program schedules, students were supported with dignity and without stigma.

Many students served by SFASAS rely on school meals during the academic year, making after-school and summer programs a vital bridge when those resources are unavailable. The recognition dinner funded through the grant further reinforced a culture of encouragement and achievement, allowing students and families to celebrate hard work and success together.

“This investment went beyond addressing hunger,” added Adly Norelus, SFASAS High School Program Director. “It strengthened engagement, affirmed students’ sense of belonging, and reinforced the connection between nourishment and opportunity.”

South Florida After-School All-Stars extends its sincere gratitude to the Popeyes Foundation for its commitment to supporting youth and strengthening communities. Partnerships like this ensure students are not only fed, but empowered to thrive.
